Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory

Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory

When traveling to San Francisco, one of my favorite stops along Fisherman’s Wharf is the Ghirardelli chocolate factory. The iconic chocolate factory landmark located at Pier 39 will satisfy anyone sweet tooth after a day of sightseeing.

Ghirardelli is one of the few chocolate companies in the United States to control every aspect of the chocolate manufacturing process rejecting up to 40% of the Coco seeds and selecting highest quality seeds in order to produce their award winning chocolates.

This traditional chocolate maker since the turn-of-the-century is the largest chocolate outlet in the United States. The candy store has very nice little shops. I stopped in for their chocolate sundae cone. Although a little on the pricey side, the chocolate ice cream happens to be one of the best that I had. From the first taste, the chocolate literally melts in your mouth. It is incredibly fresh and creamy with a very smooth texture that will leave you wanting to come back for more. The atmosphere was very busy, however the service was fast. It was also great seeing some of the old chocolate manufacturing machines which have been preserved well to bring a keen sense of nostalgia.

Along with the chocolate shop’s several different flavors to choose from, Ghirardelli Square is is home to other restaurants and shops, including  wine tasting, art vendors and several dining options with wonderful views of Fisherman’s Wharf’s. A definite must when traveling to San Francisco.
